বিশ্ব শান্তি পরিষদের সম্মিলিত সিদ্ধান্তের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে ১৯৭৩ সালের ২৩ মে বাংলাদেশে অনুষ্ঠিত এশিয়ান পিস অ্যান্ড সিকিউরিটি কনফারেন্সের বিশ্ব শান্তি পরিষদ আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে আন্তর্জাতিক কূটনীতিকদের বিশাল সমাবেশে বিশ্ব শান্তি পরিষদের তৎকালীন মহাসচিব রমেশ চন্দ্র বঙ্গবন্ধুকে ‘জুলিও কুরি, শান্তি পদক প্রদান করেন। বিশ্ব শান্তি পরিষদের শান্তি পদক ছিল জাতির পিতার কর্ম ও প্রজ্ঞার আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতি।
